Johanna Wilcott

September 24, 1923 — August 31, 2012

Dr. Johanna Henriette Wilhelmina Wilcott lived in the Mansion at Judson Park in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Dr. Wilcott grew up in Germany during World War II, in a family of ten children. Her four older brothers were killed in the war. During the war, while still in high school, she was a Red Cross nurse. She obtained a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Freiberg where she taught until 1956. At this time she won a Fulbright Scholarship and came to the University of Minnesota. She worked at the Psychiatric Institute of Children's Division in Omaha, Nebraska, where she met her husband. In 1960 they moved to Cleveland where he was employed at Case, Department of Psychology. Johanna went into private practice as a clinical psychologist. She mostly worked with children referred by the Cuyahoga County Welfare Department. She retired in 1994. Her husband died suddenly in 1995. She continued to do volunteer work related to children and was a consultant to Horizon Montessori Preschool. Dr. Wilcott was a serious quilter. One of the rooms in her apartment was designed especially for her quilting and sewing needs. She is survived by her sister, Elisabeth Peltner of Giessen, Germany and she is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
