John David Donahey, who preferred to be called "Jack" died on June 24, 2009 at the age of 79. Jack was born in Cleveland, OH. on June 16, 1930 to Doris Weber Donahey and Robert Fulton Donahey. He was the younger brother of William Fulton Donahey. How proud Jack was to be the grandson of Vic Donahey, Ohio's fist three-term Governor and U.S. Senator. 1934-1940 Education was important to Jack, and he was among the graduating class of 1948 at University School before he headed down South and graduated from The University of Virginia in 1952. Soon after, Jack became a Cpl. in the United States Army. He served as Field Cadre in the Chemical Relplacement Training Center at Ft. McClellan, Alabama from 1952 - 1954. Following in his father's footsteps, Jack became President of Donahey Insurance Agency Inc. from 1954 -1990. During this time he was honored to serve as a Director of the Motorist Mutual Insurance Company for fourteen years. Jack's pride and joy was his family. How lucky he was to have married Dorothy "Dottie" O'Neill on June 21, 1958. Married for 51 years, together they welcomed four children: John David Jr. "David" from Millbrook N.Y.; Robert "Bob" married to Colleen from Russell, OH.; Susan "Suzy" Dameron married to Tayloe from Charles City, VA., and Kathleen "Katy" Marcus married to Randall, M.D., from Cleveland Heights, OH. And the excitement continued with the arrival of each of their six grandchildren. How proudly Jack responded to his new titles of "Bogana", "Dadden Dadden" and "Grandpop." Teaching his kids and grandchildren to shoot and hunt certainly made Jack smile! He was an avid skeet shooter and upland game bird hunter. The highlight of Jack's shooting career was running 250 straight at the Mid-west Shoot in 1957 with his "Dottie Dear" watching. A man who cared about his community, Jack served on Hunting Valley Council for 28 years. He was a Founding Trustee of the Cleveland Mounted Police Charitable Trust. He served as University School Tower Society Chairman from 1982 - 1983 and also served on University School's Alumni Council from 1982 - 1988. Jack was a member of The Country Club, Whitford Woods, Bluecoats Inc., University School Tower Society, United States Sporting Clays Association, Sons of the American Revolution, Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, President of Canadians Campfire Club and he was a lifetime member of The National Rifle Association.
