John E. Doxsey Jack, Age 88, passed away on December 31, 2010. Jack was the beloved husband of the late Dorothea Dottie Doxsey, who died in 1999. He was the proud father of Martha of Edmonton Alberta, Canada, Douglas of Ironwood, MI, Virginia Bruce Wilson of Boston, MA, Mary Louise Shane John of Duxbury, VT and the late Rodger and he was the proud grandfather of four. Jack was born in Cleveland and lived here most of his life. He went through the Shaker Heights School System, entered Lehigh University in 1940 and graduated in 1944 with a BA in Mechanical Engineering. He entered the US Navy in 1946, went through the Radar Technician?À?s School, and taught radar on Treasure Island, CA until the end of the war. He then held brief positions with the General Electric Company in Schenectady, NY and with Hill and Knowlton of Cleveland, a public relations firm. Jack then joined the American Steel Warehouse Association in 1951 and remained there until his retirement in 1981. The ASWA changed its name to the Steel Service Center Institute and has since moved to Chicago and is now called the Metal Service Center Institute. Jack was an active member of Plymouth Church for 84 years. He served two terms on the Church Council, was an usher for 50 consecutive years and instituted the establishment of the archives of the church. He served on the Board of the Inner City Protestant Parish in the late 1960?À?s and was chairman of their Public Relations Committee. He also volunteered as a tutor at Buckeye-Woodland School for a decade. Additionally, Jack volunteered as an English Second Language tutor through the Cleveland Heights School System for 6 years. During this time he received the Volunteer of the Year award for his efforts. It was said of Jack then, "Jack is an excellent role model for our older immigrants and for our younger students as well, demonstrating clearly the American ideal of successful aging- living independently and fully, volunteering to help others of all ages and in many ways, remaining mentally alert and as physically active as possible". Funeral Services will be held in Plymouth Church of Shaker Heights, 2860 Coventry Road, Shaker Heights, OH on Saturday January 8th, 2011 at 11:00 am. The interment will be at Lake View Cemetery.
