John "Jack" Gilbert Fraser, MD, age eight-six, emeritus professor of Anesthesiology at Case Western Reserve University, died Friday, May 23, 2014 at his home in Cleveland Heights, OH. He was born May 6, 1928 in Niagara Falls, NY, the eldest son of Frances (Lockridge) and Gilbert Fraser. He was the brother of the late Robert Fraser, DDS of Youngstown, NY, and the loving husband of forty-two years of the late Mona Lee (Turley) who preceded him in death in 2009.
Jack grew up in Niagara Falls, where he graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1945, Niagara University in 1947, and then attended and graduated from Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital, in Philadelphia, PA in 1951. After completing an internship at Millard Filmore Hospital, in Buffalo, NY (1951-1952), Jack entered the U.S. Air Force and graduated from the Air Force School of Aviation Medicine, Randolph Field, in San Antonio, TX 1953. Rising to the rank of Captain before leaving military service to complete residencies in surgery and anesthesiology by 1964, he became a faculty member of Case Western Reserve University Medical School and Hospital in Cleveland, OH. Jack was a distinguished member of the Case Western Reserve University faculty, becoming Professor Emeritus in 2010. He was also the head of the Department of Anesthesiology at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center serving his fellow veterans with great commitment.
With Mona, Jack enjoyed traveling and visiting many areas of the globe, including Europe, Central America, and parts of the United States. His family remembers him as an avid reader of history and politics, dedicated gardener, and amateur birder. Jack was a devoted friend to many and a Great Uncle to his grandnephew and grandnieces.
Jack is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary (Sullivan) Fraser, his nephew Thomas Fraser, MD and wife Diane (Michutka) Fraser, his nieces, Mary Beth (Fraser) Connolly and husband Michael Connolly, Christine (Fraser) Bernhard and husband Peter Bernhard, and grandnephew William Bernhard and grandnieces, Sophia Bernhard, and Grace, Katharine, Madeleine, and Megan Fraser.

. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at Communion of Saint's Parish (St. Ann's), 2175 Coventry Rd. (at Cedar Rd.), Cleveland Hts., OH 44118 on Friday May 30, 2014 at 10 a.m. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT CHURCH ONE HOUR PRIOR TO THE SERVICE, FROM 9-10 a.m. Interment Lake View Cemetery.
