John Allston Sargent Top of Boca Grande Florida died on August 5th 2011 at age 73. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, December 3rd, 1937. Married to Kathrine Clark in 1960. They celebrated their 50th anniversary this last year. Father of John and Lesley. Brother of David. He attended Hawken school and Graduated from Choate School in 1956. He Graduated from Trinity College in 1960. Following his Graduation he attended Officer's Candidate School and served in the Navy as a diver and an officer in the EOD 1960 to 1964. His Business career included 22 years at Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company from 1964 to 1986 where he began as an ore sales representative and retired as a senior Vice President, having assumed corporate responsibility for the company's international operations, in Australia, Japan, and Europe. Upon retiring he pursued venture capital and real estate interests, where he ultimately owned and managed commercial property in Florida. He was a great golfer having played since he was 6. He was a passionate photographer from an early age, ultimately creating a number of books of his work. He restored antique model ships for various organizations including The Western Reserve Historical Society. He was even known to needlepoint large tapestries and rugs. He was a member of the Kirtland Country Club, and the Tavern Club where he served as President. He was also a member of the Gasparilla Inn and Club, Boca Grande Florida. He adored his Grandchildren, loved his family & friends. He had a notorious sense of humor. He loved to travel in style in his 1996 special edition Rolls Royce. A Gathering for Top will be held for family and friends at the Kirtland Country Club, on Friday the 12th of August at 5pm.
