VERNA L. PISTONE "Julie" (nee Giuliano) Born June 2, 1925, peacefully passed away Friday, January 29, 2016, at home in the company of her lifelong love, John, her husband of 66 years. Julie is also survived by her five children: Laura (Dale Kiikka), Karyn, Joan (Gene Hauck), Julianne Pertz (Paul), and John, II (Cindy) and her sister Josephine Judd, and dear friend Chris Dieck. She leaves to cherish her memory, her faith, her cooking and her stories. Julie was the dear grandmother of Mike (Erin), Spencer, Chelsea, Ben, Justin, Natalie, Nora, Ian, Miles and Jack, and dear great grandmother of Giuliana and Mila, dear aunt of many beloved nieces and nephews, and leaves countless friends and admirers. Julie was born in Mingo Junction to Anna and Raphael Giuliano, but was orphaned before she was five. She was preceded in death by her brothers Philip and Michael, her sister Katherine, and the aunt and uncle that raised them: Verna and Illuminato Giuliano. Julie was a phenomenal jazz singer who sang with the greats, including her best friends Ruth and Buddy Griebel, who survive her, and pianist Joe Howard. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The Catholic Relief Services, c/o The Catholic Diocese, 1404 E. 9th St., Cleveland, OH 44114, or The Church of St. Dominic, 19000 Van Aken Blvd., (at Norwood Rd.) Shaker Hts., OH, 44122, but most of all, the family asks you to honor Julie's legacy by being kind and grateful and not sweating the small stuff. Julie was a member of The Church of St. Dominic for 55 years, where the Mass of The Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 3rd at 11 AM. The family will gather in the back of the church one hour before Mass to receive friends. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Northfield Center, OH.
