Karole Baird

Karole Vernidine Baird was born June 5, 1921 in Sciota, Illinois to Anna Painter and Otto Litchfield as Carol Vernadine Litchfield. She attended Western Illinois State Teachers College Training School, at Macomb, Illinois from 7th to 12th grade and was Senior Class Secretary in 1939. She received her Bachelor of Education degree from Western Illinois State Teachers College in Macomb, Illinois in June of 1943.



She met her future husband, George Henry Baird, II at Western Illinois State Teachers College, and married in Rushville, Illinois on May 14, 1944. She changed her name to Karole soon after.



George Baird founded the Educational Research Council of Greater Cleveland in 1959, subsequently named the Educational Research Council of America. George was President and Chairman of the Board of ERCA until 1984. He died at home on March 23, 1997.



Karole taught elementary classes in Worland, Wyoming for five years. In 1954 she started teaching the 4th grade class at Boulevard Elementary School in Shaker Heights, Ohio. She taught over thirty years.



Karole is survived by her grandson, Baird Jonathan Ramsey of Westminster, Colorado. He is the son of her daughter, Cheryl Sue Baird, who died of cancer on January 11, 2007. Karole is also survived by her son in-law, Kirk Simonson Ramsey. He and Cheryl were married December 21, 1968.
