Life-long Cleveland resident Katherine Baker Spring, age 89, died peacefully and surrounded by her children in her home on October 23, 2010. Kate and her late husband Herbert Spring were married for 55 years. Deeply devoted to her family, Kate was the mother of Robert E. Cornelia of New York, New York, Candy S. Clancy Robert of Hudson, Ohio, Herbert Baker Michelle of Arlington, Virginia and William P. of New York, New York and six grandchildren, Huyette, Peter and Alexander Spring, and Charlie, Peter and Katie Alston. She was the daughter of Robert E. and Eva Morris Baker and the sister of Barbara Scovil of Gates Mills, Ohio and the late Emily Shane of Chevy Chase, Maryland. Kate was a graduate of Hathaway Brown School 1939 and Smith College 1944. Her loves, after her family, were gardening and flower arranging, wildlife and civic activities. She was active in the Shaker Lakes Garden Club of America and Hathaway Brown School. Ever gracious and caring, Kate had a spirit as radiant as her bright blue eyes. She will be hugely missed.
