Lawrence Gore

Lawrence Larry Jefferson Gore, age 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 28. He was a long time resident of Chesterland, OH with his wife Viola DeMore. He is survived by his daughters Bonnie Heath George, deceased and Elizabeth Green Joseph; his grandchildren George Heath Julie, James Heath Susanne, Margaret Green and Victoria Green; and his great-grandchildren Max, Colin, Alex and Grayson Heath. Larry was predeceased by parents Robert and Geneva Gore and brothers Fred Geneva, deceased and Ralph Margaret. Larry was born and raised in South Carolina, before serving his country in the Gulf of Leyte, Philippines, in the US Navy during World War II. He had met Viola in Cleveland while attending the Naval V-12 training program at John Carroll University, and returned there after being honorably discharged in 1945. Larry worked for Union Wallpaper and Paint, then for many years as a sales manager for Becht & Co., a general contracting company in East Cleveland. In 1976, he began working for Sears Roebuck, & Co. and retired from there in 1986. Larry was very involved in the East Cleveland Kiwanis Club, serving as president in the early 70's. He and Vi were active at the Lee Road Baptist Church in Cleveland and then at the First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland in Shaker Heights. Many remember him as a deacon, a booming bass in the choir, a Senior High Sunday School teacher and a youth group leader. Larry enjoyed fishing, horseshoes, and baseball. He was best known for his wit, humor and strong sense of patriotism. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in his name to First Baptist Church, Music Department, 3640 Fairmount Boulevard, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118 where Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 6 at 11 AM. Interment Lake View Cemetery. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT BROWN-FORWARD, 17022 CHAGRIN BOULEVARD FROM 2-4 AND 6-8 PM FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 5.
