Layton M. Ives, III

Layton M. Ives III of Shaker Heights, Ohio passed away on October 5, 2024, after a brave battle with cancer. He died peacefully, with his wife of 57 years Patti (nee McNair) by his side. He was the son of Layton and Katheryn (nee Cox), and is survived by his brother Edward, sister Betty Ann West (Lynn), and brother Martin. Layton’s legacy includes his daughter Jennifer Shaw and son Layton “Denny” Ives, and continues with Jennifer and husband Scott’s children McNair, Marjorie, and Max. Layton was devoted to his family, and loved spending time with his grandchildren – whether teaching them to ski, traveling in celebration of birthdays and graduations, or just roasting marshmallows together over a backyard fire.

He was a graduate of West Virginia University, and spent his career as a financial planner and CLU with Lincoln National Life. Layton was active in sport and outdoor activities, including golf and cycling but anyone who met him knew his true passion was skiing. He was a Ski Patroller and Instructor for decades, and particularly loved sharing his knowledge and passion for the sport with young people.

His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to Stand up to Cancer; www.standuptocancer.org; or Plymouth Church of Shaker Heights, 2860 Coventry Rd., Shaker Hts., OH 44120 where a funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 2nd at 11 am.
