Leona Deun

Leona Elveda (Van der Poorten)Van Deun passed suddenly but peacefully on March 21, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and cherished grandmother. She was an accomplished artist and avid gardener. No one will miss her more than "Van", her husband of 66 years, and daughters Juliann, Janine and Suzanne.

Leona was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts on January 16, 1927 and proudly displayed her Boston accent despite living 63 years in Michigan and Ohio. Her parents and Van's mother emigrated from Geraardsbergen, Belgium. Their families remained close and love blossomed as teens. They were married in 1948.



Her love of nature was expressed through her watercolors, pastels and beautifully painted porcelain pieces.



Her love of her family was expressed in a multitude of ways. Beautifully painted Christmas ornaments, personally designed and illustrated note cards, memories of chocolate Easter bunnies and more will bring loving memories with each passing season.



We are very grateful for the compassionate care provided by each of the Hillcrest Hospital staff.



We look forward to celebrating Leona's life with family and friends at a future date.



LEONA VAN DEUN, devoted wife of Jules John "Van" Van Deun; cherished mother of Juliann Ritter (Tom) of Orchard Lake, MI, Janine Bauman (Craig) of Chagrin Falls, OH, and Suzanne Hampton (David) of Redondo Beach, CA. Cherished grandmother of Jessica Ritter, Andrew and Katharine Rex, Scott (Heidi) and Daniel Hampton. Dear sister of Georgette Silva. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
