Lois Rowland Brucken nee Gilbert beloved wife of Robert M. Brucken. Dear mother of Nancy Brucken; Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Brucken, Rowland M. Lisa and Gilbert Karen Brucken. Dear grandmother of Katherine, Grace and Caroline. The family prefers that those who wish may make donations in her name to The Cleveland Sight Center, 1909 E. 101st. Cleveland, OH 44106 or Plymouth Church, 2860 Coventry Rd., Shaker Hts., OH 44120 where Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday March 14 at 2 PM. Interment at Lakeside this summer. Lois Brucken was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia in 1936. She attended Marietta College in 1958. She received a secondary school certification in speech/drama in English and French. Lois married Robert M. Brucken in June of 1960. They had four children: Nancy, a Computer Analyst in Ann Arbor, MI; Betsy, an Environmental Regulatory Specialist at the Oak Ridge atomic site; Rowland, an Associate Professor of History in Northfield, VT and Gilbert, a Manager of IT Operations at Jo-Ann Fabrics. Lois was a career educator. She taught Speech and English at the high school level for the Delaware City School District in Delaware, OH. She was also a substitute teacher and educational aide for the Shaker Heights City School District. She volunteered on numerous school committees and PTA's. Lois was a member of Plymouth Church in Shaker Heights. She was very involved in her church, serving as President, Chairman of several committees, Treasurer of the Nursery School, member of the Church Choir and was even named "Woman of the Year" in 1992. Lois was very involved in the community as well. She worked with the Shaker Heights Public Library, The Cleveland Sight Center, Cleveland Council on World Affairs, Cleveland International Program for Youth Leaders and Social Workers to name a few. She even found time to host a weekly radio program. She enjoyed travel and tennis in her spare time. She will be greatly missed.
