Lois G. Mapes nee Glatthar formerly of Shaker Heights, passed away on March 17, 2012 in Massillon, OH. Mrs. Mapes was born Lois Glatthar on February 9, 1925 in Cleveland, the daughter of George E. and Helen W. Glatthar; the Glatthars had three other children, George, Doris, Richard, all of whom predeceased Mrs. Mapes. She attended Gesu Elementary School, Laurel School and was graduated from Hood College in Maryland. After graduation she was a social worker in Baltimore, and soon thereafter married Robert F. Mapes of Shaker Heights in May of 1951; Mr. Mapes predeceased her in 1999. She is survived by her children Robert F. Mapes, Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Stuart T. Mapes Annette of Minerva, Ohio, Amanda E. Mapes, of Shaker Heights, Ohio and Elizabeth Mapes Fuller William, of Winnetka, IL, and by four grandchildren, Spencer and Emily Mapes, and Jeremy and Anna Fuller. A lifelong Clevelander who was born in University Heights and lived for many years in Shaker Heights and Bratenahl. In addition to working for Smythe-Cramer and as a fundraiser for the Cleveland Orchestra, she was a lifelong learner, an avid reader, and a great chess player. She loved her daily walk, and could easily walk three to five miles well into her eighties. Lois was celebrated for her sparkling disposition, her skill at bridge, her interest in all who crossed her path, and her deep devotion to her children and grandchildren. Lois had a loving, radiant personality; she was full of warmth, love and kindness, and knew how to see the humor in all situations. She made life fun and will be deeply missed.
