Lois Rogers

May 1, 1921 — December 1, 2013

Lois Ellen McAllister was born to, Harry and Vera on May 1, 1921 in Bellaire, OH. She and twin brother Bob and her sisters Wilma and Phyllis, grew up on the family dairy farm on Rock Hill. After graduating from high school in 1939, Lois attended Muskingum College in New Concord, OH and in 1943 received a BS in Home Economics with minors in Chemistry and English. She moved to Cleveland, where she worked as a dietitian at the Colonnade Co, and then as a chemist in the metallurgical lab at Steel Improvement and Forge Co. Lois met and soon after married Edward S. Rogers, Jr. (Ed) on Oct 31, 1947. Lois was a dedicated and loving mother to Ellen Sarah and Lynn Martha. The family lived on Harcourt Dr in Cleveland Hts., until Ed's death in 1977 and, subsequently in the Shaker Square area.
Lois had 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 3 step children, 14 step grandchildren, and 25 step great grandchildren.
She was deeply devoted to her grandchildren ; Megan, Jake, Maddie, Anna, Ned and great grandchildren, Grace and Teddy. She loved visiting them in Concord, Mass. to partake in all of the family festivities. She had a special place in her heart for Ned, who is living (along with his helper monkey Kasey) as a quadriplegic from a tragic accident in 2005.

Lois devoted her entire life to being of service to others. She volunteered at: St Luke Hospital (24 yrs), American Red Cross (20 yrs), Cleveland Society for the Blind (20 yrs) and The Shaker Public Library
(last 20 years), delivering books to the homebound.

She was a member of Fairmount Presbyterian Church for over 60 yrs and was a dedicated participant in the choir for 25 yrs,
She volunteered at Fairmount for decades and earnestly performed any job that was asked of her.

Lois was an avid reader, gardener and knitter. Her most passionate hobby was making homemade jams and jellies to give to church and charitable benefits as well as to friends and family. She was a nature (and weather) lover, a steadfast viewer of Jeopardy and The Antique Road Show and a huge fan of her beloved Cleveland Indians!

But above all Lois was a steadfast and devoted Christian, who believed that her life was meant to serve the Lord and others. She modeled this solid belief and passion every day for 92 yrs and will be remember and loved for her feisty demeanor and her sweet, warm and generous heart.

Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel at Fairmount Presbyterian Church on Saturday, December 14th at 11 AM.
