Margaret MacGillivray Schafer Gallin, 46, passed away peacefully at home on July 3 with her family and friends by her side.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband Joe, two beautiful children, Alexandra (Lexie) 8 and Matthew (Mattie) 5; her parents Bob and Dee Schafer of Mentor, OH and Kiawah Island, SC; sister Elizabeth of Chevy Chase, MD.
Margaret attended Hathaway Brown School from K-12 and Colby College in Waterville, ME.
After graduating from Colby she started her career at ABC Sports rising through the ranks spanning 20 years until she became a Director. She traveled the globe covering the Tour de France, Downhill Skiing, Speed skating, World Gymnastics Championships, Men's and Women's Golf tour and two Super Bowls among other events. She also spent 16 years covering college football including several Rose Bowls and BCS National Championship Games. She went on to work with The Golf Channel covering The Champions Tour for many years. A lifelong die hard Cleveland sports fan, Margaret put her passion for sports into her job where she was respected in a business that did not have many women in her position.
But, Margaret's real passion was her family and friends. Her family recently relocated back to the Cleveland area where she was able to re-connect with former classmates and old friends. She has instilled in Lexie and Mattie her love for all things Cleveland. The family shares fond memories of times spent going to events- dance recitals, school plays, Metroparks, the Arboretum, KCC, parades and local high school football games to name a few- with friends and introducing her family to the area she grew up in and loved. Her love of the outdoors and positive attitude towards life will live on in her children.
A memorial mass will be held Sunday July 7, 2013 at 3pm in St. Hubert's Episcopal Church, 8870 Baldwin Rd., Kirtland Hills, OH.
The family prefers that donations can be made to Hathaway Brown School, 19600 N. Park Blvd., Shaker HTS., OH 44122.
