Margaret M. Schrock died March 5, 2014.
She was born February 21, 1917, in the home of her grandmother in Wauseon, Ohio. Her father, Delbert Schrock, died two months before her birth and her mother, Martha Koos Schrock, raised Margaret and her four older siblings in the small town of Delta, Ohio.
All five were able to attend college and had successful careers in teaching, pharmacy and accounting.
Margaret attended Ohio University on scholarship, graduated in 1939 and taught kindergarten for a few years in suburban Toledo before joining her sister Elizabeth in Cleveland in 1943.
They both taught in various east side Cleveland public schools before being assigned to R.G. Jones School on W. 150th Street around 1950. From then until retirement in the 1970s they were two of the three first grade teachers there, the third being Helen MacKeigan, who became Margaret's life-long friend and frequent travel companion.
Many of Margaret's happiest times were those she spent behind the wheel of her car traveling all 48 contiguous states. She also took three tours to various European destinations in her 80s.
Margaret was predeceased by her sisters Frances Smith and Elizabeth Schrock and her brothers Stanley Schrock and Howard Schrock, as well as a nephew, Robert Schrock.
She is survived by another nephew, William Schrock (Mary Jane) and nieces Patricia Boyle (William), Carol Swift and Martha McGraw (Patrick) as well as their families, to whom she was a beloved great-aunt.
She was a long-time member of Rocky River Presbyterian Church.
She spent several years as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels shortly before becoming a client of the program herself.
A resident of Fairview Park for nearly 55 years, Margaret spent the last 15 months of her life at Judson Park in assisted living and nursing units where she received the most attentive, patient and compassionate care from every staff member with whom she came in contact.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Rocky River Presbyterian Church, 21750 Detroit Rd., Rocky River, OH 44116.
Contributions may be made in her name to Rocky River Presbyterian Church, Save the Children, 54 Wilton Road, Westport, CT 06880 or a charity of the donor's choice.
