Funeral Mass will be held at Church of St. Dominic on Tuesday, June 8 at 10 A.M. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT BROWN-FORWARD, 17022 CHAGRIN BLVD. FROM 2-4 P.M. SUNDAY. Mary Ann Fonte of Bryden Road in Shaker Heights passed away on Wednesday, June 2. She was known to friends and family as an unabashed optimist who loved life, family, friends, and music. A hair stylist at the fashionable salons of Shaker Square, Mary Fonte always kept abreast of the latest trends in style and fashion. Indeed, she was recruited by the famous Patricia Stevens Modeling Agency to teach classes to aspiring models in the essentials of their craft. She also trained new instructors and reviewed the latest trends for the agency. An accomplished pianist, Mary had many offers to play professionally, which she politely turned down because it would have meant too much time away from her husband and two sons. But, she continued to perfect her skills, taking lessons in jazz improvisation during the last decade of her life. Known to be a gourmet cook, friends and relatives highly prized an invitation to dinner at Mary's house. She combined traditional Italian recipes with her own latest creations. Like her interest in music, Mary never stopped learning and creating new recipes. She always made guests feel comfortable when they visited, and entertained them with games or by playing the piano. She and her husband, John, were proud of their castle-style home in Shaker Heights, which he designed. She loved to tell the story of the couple who stopped their car in front of the house when it was still unfinished, and offered to buy it on the spot. Mary stayed in the house she loved until 7 months before her death. Mary was a parishioner at St Dominic Church in Shaker Heights and a member of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America, Fidelia Lodge No. 169. She is survived by her sons John D wife Susan and Richard W wife Dulcy; grandchildren Rick wife Erin and Gia husband Isaac, sister Adeline Wilder, and brothers William and Thomas Muni.
