Mary Isabel Johnson Murphy, 91, of Shaker Heights, beloved wife of John R. Murphy, M.D., died Feb. 4, 2017, at home after a period of declining health. In addition to her husband, she is survived by five sons, Douglas, M.D., (Dana) of Shaker Heights, Bruce (Theresa Yondo) of Russell Township, Scott (Nancy) of Montana, Robert (Nancy) of California and John (Nora) of Shaker Heights, and seven grandchildren, Patrick, Julia, Daniel, Jackie, Chantel, Cara and Ian. She was born May 15, 1925, at home in Bergholz, Ohio, the only child of John and Isabel Barnes Johnson. She graduated from the Ohio State University School of Nursing in 1947 and began her long career in nursing in a psychiatric ward at Lakeside Hospital, Cleveland. She and John married Nov. 25, 1949. After raising her sons, she returned to nursing at the CWRU Student Health Center, enjoying her work with students until she retired at age 80. She was a supportive and loyal wife, mother and grandmother and had a role in the lives of many children in the community. She was active in Scouting and her five sons all attained Eagle Scout. She was a member of LWV and University Women's Club, and she and her husband had been Sunday School teachers at Fairmount Presbyterian Church in Cleveland Heights.
