Mary Jean Salrin "Jean" (nee Kohl), 84, formerly of Elyria, OH died Sunday, October 13, at her home in Ventura, CA. Jean is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert E. Salrin, daughter Sheila Field, son Michael Salrin (Shanann) and daughter in-law Cindy Salrin, brother Paul E. Kohl, Jr. of New London, OH and Robert J. Kohl (Julita) of Shaker Heights, OH, sister in-law Jane A. Kohl (Mrs. Regis) of Elyria, OH. Also survived by seven loving grandchildren , Kari Salrin, Danielle Donnelly (Nathan), Dillon Salrin (Jessica), Jamie Oswald (Corey), Cody Salrin, Chad and Lauren Thompson and two great grandsons, Landon Donnelly and Luke Salrin. Jean is also survived by close family friend Dolores Dubenezic and countless nieces and nephews and cousins in Ohio. Jean was preceded in death by her son Robert E. Salrin, Jr., son in-law Douglas Field, parents Mary A. and Paul E. Kohl, Sr. a brother Regis L. , sister Agnes Marie and sister in-law Lois Kohl.
The family moved to California in 1954, residing mainly in Canoga Park and later moving to Encino, then retiring in Ventura, CA for the last 25 years. Both Jean and Bob loved to travel and were fortunate to see many parts of the world. Following her husband's retirement and Jean's semi retirement from the kitchen, they dined out frequently and continued their travels.
Jean will be remembered for her love of family, a kind, warm and smiling person with time to listen to anyone, especially her grandchildren in spite of her own failing health. She was a fantastic wife and mother and her greatest joy in life was spending time with family and friends. Jean and Bob returned to Ohio almost every year in their retirement for several weeks.
A Memorial Mass will be held at their home parish, Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 3175 Telegraph Rd., Ventura, CA 93003 on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 10:00 AM.
