Mary Tipler

Mary Jean Tipler, age 87 of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, died peacefully on March 21.  Born January 9, 1929 in Antigo, Wisconsin to Perry A. Tipler and Ella A. Tipler (Erlandson), she attended schools in Antigo and Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  Married May 31, 1952 to Carl William Ubbelohde, Jr.  She received a Bachelor degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.A social worker at heart, she applied her passion to fair housing, the League of Women Voters, and the Democratic party including numerous campaigns.  Generous to a fault, she always had room for strays both animal and human.  Travel, photography and reading brought pleasure throughout her life.Loving mother of Susan Ubbelohde (George Loisos) of Oakland, CA, Nell Ubbelohde (Russell Lane) of Minneapolis, MN, Tipler Ubbelohde of Oakland, CA, and Katherine Gillooly (Greg) of Cleveland Heights, OH; dear grandmother of Lily (Scott), Tamlin (Faye), Aldur and Fiona; Benjamin and Alexander; great-grandmother of Vladimir.  Dear sister of Paul Tipler (Claudia) of Alameda, CA.  Predeceased by her husband, Carl William Ubbelohde and her long time companion, Lawrence McKinnon. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) 4506 Chester Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44103.  Family service and interment in Neenah, Wisconsin this Summer 2016.Heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of The Woodlands of Shaker and to the Hospice of the Western Reserve.
