Michael Robert Weil, age 77 of Cleveland Hts.,aOH. passed away gracefully on June 8, 2016. Beloved husband of Hannah "Candy" Weil (nee Stotter); loving father of Robert H. Weil (Wendy) of Cleveland Hts., Michael R. Weil, Jr. (Meredith) of Cleveland Hts., Alice Weil Krost (Lee) of Lakewood, OH and Matthew J. Weil (Melanie) of Roseville, CA; grandfather of Oliver, Samuel, Sarah, Jacob, Zachary, Rebecca and the late Joshua; dear brother of Marcia Borowski (Oded) and Patricia Sugiuchi, and a beloved uncle and brother-in-law. A graduate of University School and Haverford College, Michael worked for 50 years in the insurance and risk management professions beginning at Weil & Son, the agency started by his great grandfather in 1893 that maintained a century of service to the Cleveland community. Additionally, Michael served on the boards of numerous organizations including Playhouse Square, Woodruff Foundation, Deaconess Hospital Foundation, the Cleveland Racquet Club, the Northeast Ohio Squash Racquets Association, and Castalia Trout Club. He was a competitive and accomplished tennis and squash player. At the piano, his distinct swing style came through in his near encyclopedic knowledge of jazz and pop standards from Scott Joplin through Sinatra. Michael was a fully adorned fly fisherman who enjoyed traveling--anywhere near an Adirondack lake, Montana trout stream or Bahama bonefish flats. A closet erudite and a voracious reader-- particularly of the transcendentalists zeroed in on Thoreau--his library is filled with books from literary history; the margins filled with Michael's cryptic notes and precise underlinings. Above all he was a devoted family man and friend who gave fully of himself for the enjoyment of his children, grandchildren and his wife--his best friend and companion of 52 years. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in his name to the Catch Meaning Fund at the Cleveland Foundation, 1422 Euclid Ave Ste 1300, Cleveland, OH 44115. AaCelebration of Michael's Life will be held at 2pm on Friday, June 17 at Plymouth Church, 2860 Coventry Rd, Shaker Hts., OH 44120. The family will receive visitors at the home of Hannah Weil from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday June 12 and Monday June 13.
