Mina Jean Moore

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mina Jean Moore, age 84. She was born in Edwardsville, Illinois to Amanda and William Voyles. She was the beloved younger sister of Leola (Dee Dee) Shumar and Donald Voyles, the supportive wife of Richard Moore, and the cherished mother of Amanda Dupont (Jay) and Katherine Zimmerer (Thomas). She was always a woman of strong faith. Her strength of conviction plus her feisty/spunky/spirited nature will be deeply missed by her family, friends and colleagues.

Mina was an intellectually and spiritually curious woman. She was the first in her immediate family to go to college, graduating from Wayne State University. Shortly after college she began working at the Cleveland Health Museum. She then taught briefly at Fenn College before being offered a position at Case Western Reserve University, establishing herself as a respected educator, and coaching the Women’s Volleyball team at the University for many years. She even started her own T-shirt printing business with one of her fellow colleagues. When she retired from Case Western, she was honored as Professor Emeritus, the first person in the Athletic Department to ever receive this award.

Outside of her professional life, she was a supportive, encouraging and loving mother to her two daughters. She raised them with just the right amount of love and discipline, and was always there to support them. She also enjoyed a robust social life with her husband and friends. She particularly loved playing golf, listening to the Cleveland Orchestra, enjoying good food and wine, and traveling around the country with her sister.

She is survived by her husband Richard Moore, her two daughters Amanda Dupont (Jay) and Katherine Zimmerer (Thomas), and five grandchildren Evan and Mena Dupont and George, Ellie and Sheila Zimmerer.  Mina was the dear grandmother of Evan and Mena Dupont and George, Ellie and Sheila Zimmerer.  We will all miss her quick wit, her sense of humor and her passionate nature.

A memorial service will be held in June with details forthcoming.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly ask that donations be made to the Cleveland Orchestra at Clevelandorchestra.com/donate.

Rest in peace Mina Moore, you are deeply loved
