Nancy M. Murphy, 87 of Shaker Heights, Ohio, passed away on November 9, 2017.
Nancy was born in Cleveland on May 15, 1930. She attended Cleveland Public Schools during her elementary years and received her high school diploma from Beaumont School for Girls in Cleveland Heights. She continued her education at St. John's College where she received her undergraduate degree in Education and later obtained her Master's Degree from John Carroll University.
Teachers play an important role in shaping our lives and Nancy was no exception. A lifelong educator, Nancy taught in the Cleveland Public Schools and the South Euclid-Lyndhurst District. Nancy spent most of her teaching career in the Shaker Heights Public Schools earning many awards and accolades but more importantly, earning the love and respect of her students.
Deeply rooted in her faith, Nancy was a longtime member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, and love of God and family always came first in her life. She also loved anything chocolate, enjoyed traveling, her Irish heritage and watching her favorite TV shows Dancing with the Stars and Blue Bloods. She was an ardent supporter of the Cleveland Indians and, like all loyal fans, enjoyed the post season runs of the last couple years. Though Nancy had many endearing qualities, her kind and generous nature and wonderful sense of humor may be what will be remembered most.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Marie Cundall Murphy and Leo Murphy, her maternal aunt, Dorothy Hall and by her cherished cousin, William Hall, who was like a brother to her. She is survived by many treasured friends and by her dog, Buddy, who will all miss her dearly.
