Nancy Saada

December 3, 1938 — July 30, 2011

Nancy Saada nee Hernan, age 72 of Shaker Heights OH. Liberal in her political views, she was an early activist in the Civil Rights movement. After her Junior year abroad in France, Nancy had a startling awareness of the racism in the United States. During her Senior year at Elmira College, Nancy, class Valedictorian, faced expulsion for speaking in favor of, organizing, and leading a Civil Rights march through the town. She loved travel and visited all seven continents with her husband, including visiting her husband?À?s family all over the world. Nancy was known for her sense of fairness and justice. An elegant and kind woman, Nancy graced every project, activity and group to which she belonged or participated. Nancy was loved and admired by all who knew her. She was the cherished wife of Adel "Tony" Saada, and the dear mother of Christiane Saada Blume Benjamin of Wheaton, IL and Richard Saada of Sammamish, WA. She was the dear grandmother of Nat, Katie, Carrie and Stephanie and sister of Richard Alden Hernan, Jr. Paula of Warren, PA. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The Smile Train, 41 Madison Avenue, 28th Floor, New York, NY 10010 or to Elmira College Nancy Hernan Saada '60 Study Abroad Scholarship, 1 Park Place, Elmira, NY 14901. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6th at the First Unitarian Church of Cleveland, 21600 Shaker Blvd., Shaker Heights, OH 44122.
