Nancy Lapham Schubert

Nancy Lapham Schubert, born on May 25, 1940, in Jamestown, New York, peacefully passed away on February 22, 2025, in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and dedication to the art of teaching.

Nancy’s passion for education began early in her life and was influenced by her parents, who were both professional musicians. She graduated from Nottingham High School in Syracuse in 1958 before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lake Erie College in 1962 and a Master of Education from Boston University in 1964. Her commitment to helping others was further cemented during her junior year of college, when she worked at the Jane Addams Hull-House in Chicago, where she supported underprivileged children. This experience solidified her path as an educator.

Throughout her career, Nancy taught fifth grade in Acton, Massachusetts, and Orange, Connecticut, as well as fourth grade in Shaker Heights, Ohio. She was a beloved teacher, known for her encouraging spirit and genuine dedication to her students. Nancy’s impact on the lives of her students was profound and lasting.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Nancy was an avid supporter of the arts. Her love for music was evident throughout her life; she played the flute, sang in church choirs, and actively supported musical organizations. Nancy's interests extended beyond her academic and artistic pursuits; she cherished spending time with her family, traveling with friends, and enjoying the simple joys of laughter, all while sharing her home with her beloved dogs.

Nancy was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Daniel S.P. Schubert.  Nancy is survived by her son Alex, daughter-in-law Kristine, and grandchildren Maya, Clara, and Xander, who will carry forward her spirit and values. She was predeceased by her mother Wilmah and her father G. Frank Lapham.

A memorial service to celebrate Nancy’s remarkable life will be held on March 14, 2025, at the Church of the Saviour in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, beginning at 10:00 AM, with the service commencing at 11:00 AM.
