Nancy Treadway

August 28, 1931 — April 21, 2014

Nancy Kadow Treadway died on April 21, 2014 at the age of 83.

She was born in Cleveland, OH on August 28, 1931, to Lucille Bentley Kadow and Franklin Campbell Kadow, DDS. Nancy's beloved older sister Joan (Charlie Choate, dec.) resides in Milton, Florida.

Nancy was married to Lyman "Tim" H. Treadway, her high school crush, for 55 years. They had three children, Kate (Steve Hughes), Jenny (Tim Burke) and John, who she raised with unconditional patience, love and joy.

Nancy attended Hathaway Brown School on a scholarship, graduating in 1949. She spoke so fondly of her time at HB and her classmates, many of whom became dear, lifelong friends. There she played on the first teams for field hockey, basketball, volleyball, and softball for all but one season, and won the school Art Award. Nancy also was a proud graduate of her beloved Smith College, class of 1953, where she received a B.A. in English.

She loved gardening and was a member of the Garden Club of Cleveland. Nancy enjoyed antiquing all her life, and later became an avid and informed collector of Native American art and artifacts.

Nancy was a gifted artist, and family and friends cherished her annual hand-drawn Christmas cards, often featuring the family cats and Corgis. A lesser known but no lesser love, was movies. However, her greatest passion was the Opera. She was a devoted supporter of the Cleveland Opera and the New York Metropolitan Opera, and traveled countless times to New York to see the Met. Nancy combined her incredible writing talent with this passion when, serving on the Junior Women's Committee of the Northern Ohio Opera Association, she wrote This is Opera?!?, Vol. 5. She also published an article on opera in Cleveland magazine in 1973.

Most of all, Nancy loved her family which grew to include her two sons-in-law and four beautiful grandchildren, Molly and Danny Burke, and Halsey and Jenny Hughes, all of whom she adored. Nothing made her happier than a family meal when everyone was together laughing, talking and eating. Nancy was extremely intelligent, articulate, compassionate, open-minded, kind, funny, and "left-handed". She will be dearly missed.

Nancy's family wishes to thank the amazing team from Hospice of the Western Reserve, and the very capable nurses, devoted caregivers, and loving family and friends who provided so much care, support and love during her prolonged, serious illness (who can all attest, she never, ever complained).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy's memory, to Hospice of the Western Reserve 300 E 185th St, Cleveland, OH, 44119, Hathaway Brown School, 19600 North Park Rd., Shaker Hts., OH 44122, or the charity of choice.
