Peace and justice advocate Dr. Olynyk was born in Ymir, B.C. the son of John and Anastasia Olynyk nee Zibulak. He was a graduate of McGill University, and received a Ph. D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Toronto. In the 1940Õs, Dr. Olynyk led the first racially integrated Cub Scout pack in Ohio. Dr. Olynyk taught chemistry and environmental sciences at Cleveland State University for more than 30 years. After retiring from Cleveland State University, he taught biological chemistry and tutored at Tri-C East. An ardent anti-war activist, he marched in the first 50-mile march between Cleveland and Akron to protest the Viet Nam War. He also organized dozens of peace rallies in the Cleveland area during that era. Years later, he led an organization in the Cleveland area called ÒSANEÓ, which was a peace action that worked for an end to the proliferation of nuclear weapons, global nuclear disarmament and alternatives to war and violence. Dr. Paul Olynyk believed in forgiving seventy times seven. Dr. Olynyk was an avid gardener, and always gave broken or wilted plants a second chance to survive. He was the loving husband of Dr. Maryanne Olynyk nee Sczpanski. He was the dear father of Frank and Phillip Olynyk, Kathy Smith-Hundley Redman, David, John-Paul Jennifer and Sarah Olynyk. He was a grandfather of 9 and a great-grandfather of 4. He is also survived by his brother, William Olynyk.
