Paul Schambs

PAUL A. SCHAMBS, age 87, born: September 16, 1923 and resident of Pepper Pike, Ohio. Mr. Schambs was a sales executive, retired military officer, and athletic coach. He lived in Cleveland Heights, attending Cleveland Heights Schools through his sophomore year and then attending Kentucky Military Institute on an athletic scholarship his junior and senior years. He graduated with honors in 1941 and enlisted in the Army Infantry as a private and after basic training, was selected to go to Infantry Officers Schools at Fort Benning, Georgia. He saw service in the European and Pacific Theaters where he received awards, decorations and commendations. Paul also served in the reserves retiring as a Lt. Col. AUS, with over 20 years of service. After graduating from Ohio University in 1948, as a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and several other organizations, he entered the advertising and sales promotion industry before starting his own company in 1976. He became a motivational sales speaker, giving sales seminars and many of his articles have been published. Mr. Schambs was the first lifetime member of the Sales and Marketing Executives of Cleveland, where he held various positions, retiring from business in April, 2001 due to health reasons. A family memorial service will be held. Mr. Schambs is survived by his wife, Betty Sue Murray; sons, Gary Faith Pescatore of Russell Township and Paul, Jr. of Mayfield Village; step-son Mark Pierce of Seattle; daughters, Karen Cooper, Atlanta, Linda Hatch Lawrence, Shaker Heights, step-daughter Cathy Salas of Ft. Worth, TX; and sister, Lois Gerstenberger of Bedford, seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery with military honors at a later date.
