Polly McCarthy, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away very peacefully on Sunday, August 18th at the age of 90. Born on April 30th, 1934, in Cleveland, OH, Polly McCarthy lived a life full of grace, kindness, and enduring love. She had a fighting spirit that saw her well through the challenges and adversity that life presents.

A devoted mother to Christian, Leslie, David, Lizabeth and Drew and a beloved grandmother to Christian, Scott, Olivia, Marissa, Sabrina, Samantha and Audrey, Polly McCarthy was adored by her family. Her warmth, humor, wisdom, and unwavering support were gifts that will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on through her family, who carry forward the values and love she imparted.

Throughout her life, Polly McCarthy enjoyed music, laughter and her tremendous artistic ability came through in many ways, from sewing and dressmaking to painting beautiful imagery on canvas. Her passions were reflected in the way she nurtured so many that were around her. Her gentle spirit and infectious smile touched the lives of everyone around her. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and joy.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Polly McCarthy is survived by her sister Suzanne Dawes as well as her great grandchildren Christian, Caleb, Colin, Mason, Dexter and Jameson. She was preceded in death by her eldest son Christian Nichol, loving husband Frank McCarthy, parents Henry and Yetive Pickands, and brother Henry “Sparks” Pickands.

There will be a private celebration of life with her immediate family who will gather to honor her memory. In her honor the family requests donations to be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital ( www.stjude.org ) in the name of Polly McCarthy, reflecting her enduring spirit of giving.

Rest in peace, Polly McCarthy. Your love and fighting spirit will remain with us always.
