The Reverend Robert William Haring was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania February 28, 1917. He attended Wooster College graduating in 1941 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Philosophy. He was married to Doris Frances Bennett on September 11, 1943. She is also a Wooster graduate. They had one son, John A. Haring, born in 1946. Bob is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bob attended Union Theological Seminary in New York City receiving a Doctor of Divinity in 1944. During the war years he worked with the Chaplains at Wright and Patterson Fields in a Presbyterian Church in Dayton, Ohio. In 1949 he was called by the Presbyterians of the Western Reserve to help build a new church organized in 1948 for a charter member congregation from Phillips Avenue Presbyterian Church in Cleveland. The church was built in 1953 by its members. Before that they met in Sokol Hall and Sussex School. The Church was dedicated in 1954 at a site considered a high point in our viewing area. Land elevated was a symbol most appropriate to have a church built. When he was at Trinity he was active in interfaith work, especially the Suburban Temple next door where a friendship walk was built to get together in the 1970's. The dedication was formalized with Minister and Rabbi. He was Great Books Leader at Shaker Library. Bob was a fine speaker and wonderful Pastor when people called on him. He served many in the community. Bob was scholarly but down to earth. After his retirement in 1984, Bob was named Pastor Emeritus by the people of his church. Bob continued his ministry and supply preacher in the community. He handled numerous weddings at Old Stone Church. Bob provided pastoral care in various hospitals and in homes. He had ten years service at Parma South. The hospitals he visited were: Southwest, Parma Community, Lakewood, St. Vincent Charity, Metro and Fairview. Bob was respected, and loved by so many people who crossed his path.
