Robert Charles Howson, Sr., age 94, passed away on January 26, 2014 at Judson Park Retirement Home in Cleveland, OH. He was the devoted husband of Gladys (Breen) Howson for 37 years and was the son of the late Harvie and Margaret (Dellenbaugh) Howson of Columbus, OH. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired after 20 years in the Navel Reserves as a Lieutenant Commander. Robert worked as Plant Engineer at Perfection Stove Company for 23 years and was the Director of Plant Operations at both Suburban Community Hospital (now Merida South Pointe) and Akron City Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Howson were avid travelers and visited many countries around the world. They were also long-time members of the College Club and Church of the Saviour. Robert was active in many civic groups and he contributed many hours working for the Cleveland Division of UNICEF.
Robert was preceeded in death by his two brothers: Harvie (1996)of Columbus, OH, James (2011) of Euclid, OH and Bob's son David L. (2012). Surviving with Bob's wife and his brother Jim's widow, Marcella, are Bob's daughter, Holly (Howson) Dahlman and her husband Darrell of Macungie, PA; Bob's son, Robert Howson, Jr. and his wife Laura of Twisp, WA; and Bob's step-daughters, Judith (Hill) Rickey and her husband Daid of San Antonio, TX; Shirley (Hill) Tietjen and her husband Jim of San Antonio, TX; and Bob's son David L. Howson's widow, Susan Howson of Hudson, OH. Bob was the loving grandfather of Holly's four children: Mark Puffer, Beckie Hoffman, Heather Bassole and Hilary Wise; David's son, David M. Howson; and one step-grandchild, Shirley Tietjen's son, Clay Tietjen. He also had four great-grandchildren, Emilou Bassole, Claire Bassole, Collin Wise and Bridget Wise.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in memory of Robert Charles Howson, Sr. be made to the Breen/Howson Fund in care of: Church of the Saviour, 2537 Lee Road, Cleveland Hts., OH, 44118, where Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Saturday, February 1.
