Robert Vitek

August 19, 1919 — May 20, 2012

ROBERT L. VITEK, SR. The beloved husband of Marie nee Prochaska of Pepper Pike, Ohio, passed away May 20th, 2012. Bob graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1937 and went on to graduate from John Carroll University with a BS in Chemistry in 1941. While at John Carroll, he became the sports editor for school newspaper, "The Carroll News." On May 1st, 1948 Bob married Marie Prochaska and they recently observed their sixty-fourth wedding anniversary. Bob continued studying at John Carroll and in 1952 received his Masters in Chemistry degree. Bob and Marie were founding members of The Church of St. Dominic in Shaker Heights. Bob was very active, as he sung in the choir for over 30 years, taught The Parish School of Religion for about five years, was very instrumental in several of the fund raising campaigns for the building of the church school. Bob was also honored to receive the prestigious Cantando Devotio award in 1982, given to a choir member for distinguished service. Bob wasn't all business, however, as he was a dependable and enthusiastic member of the weekly St. Dominic Bowling League. In 1971, at the age of 52, Bob started his own company, The Vitex Corporation, a manufacturer of custom blending and formulating of industrial cleaning compounds. While continuing to work long and hard, Bob still managed to enjoy his love for floral gardening, dogs, big band and show tune music, while being a devoted husband, father and grandfather, as well. Bob was the dear father of Deborah Suszynski Edward of Mentor, OH, Robert L. Vitek, Jr. Sally of Painesville, OH, Kathryn Scheid Rick of Orange Village, OH and William P. Vitek Laurel of Denver, CO. He was the dear grandfather of The Rev. Edward Suszynski, Cheryl Suszynski, Joseph Suszynski, Andrew Vitek Kathryn, Elaine Sargent Aaron, Christine Vitek, Clayton Vitek and Vienna Vitek and the dear brother of the late Helen Vitek and Margaret Cooper. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in his name to The Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E. 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119 or The Memory Care Fund, c/o Kemper House Mentor, 8155 Mentor Hills Dr., Mentor, OH 44060. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, May 26th at 10 AM in The Church of St. Dominic, 19000 Van Aken Blvd., at Norwood Rd. Shaker Hts., OH. A private family interment will be in Knollwood Cemetery.
