Ruth Bennett

February 8, 1921 — September 7, 2013

Ruth Eleanor Hillman Bennett, beloved mother of Jim of New York, NY, Dick (Nancy) of Cleveland Heights, OH, Steve of Hinckley, OH, Carl (Mary) of Earleton, FL, and Alan of Hermitage, PA, died peacefully on September 7, 2013, at the A.M. McGregor Home in East Cleveland, OH.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Attorney James E. Bennett, Jr., a partner at the firm of Manchester, Bennett, Powers and Ullman, who died on March 5, 2002.

Ruth was a loving grandmother of 6 and cherished great-grandmother of 7.

Ruth was born in Philadelphia, PA. to Carl and Charlotte Hillman on February 8, 1921, and attended Cornell University. She is survived by her brother, Dick (Lois) of Northridge, CA. She was a resident of Poland, OH, from 1948 to 1975 when she and her husband moved to New Springfield, OH, where they had more land to enjoy their favorite hobbies of tennis and gardening. She remained in New Springfield until 2006 when she moved to Copeland Oaks Retirement Village in Sebring, OH.

Ruth was a dedicated community volunteer serving such organizations as Meals-on-Wheels, Hospice of the Valley, Central Christian Church, YWCA and the Florence Crittenden Home.

Over the years she hosted a number of students and teachers from international exchange groups.

She was also an artist as well as an accomplished writer, submitting many poems and short stories to the Scribblers Club.
