Ruth Chase

April 11, 1922 — February 28, 2013

Ruth Ellen Chase nee Meisser, age 90, passed away peacefully in her residence at Laurel Lake. She was born April 11, 1922 to Dr. John G. Meisser and Ella Meisser in Rochester, MN. Ruth graduated from Shaker Heights High School and in 1945, graduated from the University of Michigan, School of Journalism. Her first job upon graduation was with The Cleveland Press. Ruth married the late Joseph J. Chase in 1947. They raised two sons, Joseph and John. She started her career in teaching in 1967 at Euclid Central Junior High School. After retirement in 1973, Ruth focused her time and commitment volunteering for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Kirklandia Society, Holden Arboretum and Project Learn. She was an active, lifelong member of Epworth Euclid Methodist Church. Ruth is the beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Chase. She is survived by the following. Dear mother of Joseph E. Chase, MD Sharon of Kent, OH and John D. Chase Kathryn of Carmel, IN. Dear grandmother of J. Matthew Chase Francesca, Robert B. Chase Melinda, Abigail Chase Abercromie Chris, Steven C. Chase, Ashley M. Chase, Emily E. Chase, and Sarah M. Chase. Dear great-grandmother of Lucia, Milo and Gianna Chase, Eleanor Chase and George, Rocco and Wyatt Abercromie. Dear sister of John G. Meisser of Milwaukee, WI. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The Laurel Lake Foundation, 200 Laurel Lake Dr., Hudson, OH 44236, or to the United Methodist Committee on Relief UMCOR 475 Riverside Drive, Room 1520, New York, NY 10115.
