Sarah Wilkins

December 29, 1934 — October 21, 2010

SARAH H. WILKINS nee Houriet, age 75 of Shaker Hts., OH. "Sally", as she was known by her family and friends, was born on December 29, 1934 in Norfolk, VA. She grew up in Shaker Hts., OH and graduated high school from Hathaway Brown. She received her B.A. in Political Science from Smith College in 1956 and subsequently married Edwin Wilkins in '56 while he was stationed in the Navy in Jacksonville, FL. The family also lived in Boston, MA before settling in Shaker Hts., OH in 1960. Sally raised three children in Shaker and worked at the Allen Memorial Medical Library of Case Western Reserve University as an administrator until she retired 1999. She was an avid amateur photographer and collector of historical photographs, primarily of natured themes. However, her passion was her gardens, which covered most of the front and back yards of her home. Gardening was her means of artistic expression, connection with nature, source of healthy exercise and opportunity to commune with neighbors. Sally is survived by her children: Sarah L. Wilkins of New York, NY, Julia K. Houriet of Watertown, MA and Edwin Nelson Wilkins Jr. Julie of Pembroke, MA; grandchildren Madison Marie Wilkins and Edwin Nelson Wilkins, III; sister Nancy Houriet Colton of Laurinburg, NC; sister-in-law Sandra Houriet Wilch of Hartland, WI and close cousins Bonnie Baker, Harry Fisher, Doug Merrick and Gil Merrick. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Thursday, October 28th in the Wade Memorial Chapel of Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland, OH. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT BROWN-FORWARD, 17022 CHAGRIN BLVD, SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH, ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27TH FROM 5-7PM. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, 2600 S Park Blvd, Shaker Hts., OH 44122.
