Scott Charles Garverick was born October 24, 1991. He died suddenly and tragically on October 13, 2011, eleven days before his 20th birthday. He is greatly missed by his parents, Linda and Steve; his sister, Susan; his grandparents, Helen, Sheldon and Marguerite; his best friend, Linus; and all of his other friends and relatives. Scott was loving and generous, a friend to all living things. He gave to the less fortunate and cared for his hamster Excalibur, his dog Eevee, and his cats Tikkie and Ampersand. He loved wild animals, except for wolves, which scared him a little. He ran with cheetahs. Scott was a loyal friend. He would spend hours in philosophical discussions, playing video games, or making pizza with M&Ms to share with everyone. But he chose friends carefully and surrounded himself with those with whom he could form long-lasting relationships. Scott was a scholar. He was gifted in math and science, but expanded his studies to whatever interested him at any given time. He understands the political and economical potential of Thorium and is versed in the theory of entangled particles. He chose a calculus textbook for vacation reading after high school graduation, but never opened his college textbooks. He would take time to contemplate everything on long walks, sometimes alone and sometimes with friends. Scott was adventurous. He loved to travel and had recently been to Japan, Germany, Norway and Sweden. He was fluent in German and was learning Japanese. Scott was humble but competitive. He was skilled at chess and a ruthless Monopoly player and he studied Tae Kwan Do and played soccer and baseball. He had recently become an archery instructor and was an active member of Case Western's Archery Club. He did not boast about his wins -- they were assumed. His losses hurt him deeply inside. Scott was a gentleman. He never struck a living thing or raised his voice in anger. He looked great in a coat and tie and fedora. He carried a pocket watch and a pocketknife, and dressed up in suits just because he felt like it. He shaved using soap and brush, never aerosol. Scott was complicated. He gave the finger to a kindergarten classmate because he "wanted to know what it felt like." He bought a kukri on his 18th birthday because his "mother needed some branches trimmed." He read Nietzche and Camus, Manga, and also Jim Butcher, and Al Franken, and Scott Adams. His plan for his 21st birthday was a fox tattoo - it would start with two tails and grow a new one for each decade. His family and friends love him dearly. Goodbye, Scott. Scott was a graduate of Ruffing Montessori 2006, Shaker High School 2010 and a student of Case Western Reserve University Class of 2014.
