Steven I. Reger, age 76, beloved husband of Sally E. Reger; dear father of Steven A. Reger (Stephanie) and Kirsten R. Richards (Harry K.); beloved grandfather of Samantha Sara Richards, Harry "Kessel" Richards, and Elizabeth Ann Richards.
Dr. Reger, an alumnus and former Associate Professor at the University of Virginia, was a biomedical engineer and prosthetist by training. He was a Freedom Fighter in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution before emigrating to the United States, where he was proud to be a naturalized citizen.
He was the Emeritus Director for Rehabilitation Technology in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at The Cleveland Clinic and a founding member of National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel. Dr. Reger was well-known nationally and internationally for his academic excellence and research in rehabilitation engineering and wound care. He was awarded numerous patents, research grants and has authored more than 200 scientific publications. Dr. Reger also provided clinical services to patients with various mobility issues for more than 30 years.
Above all, "Big Steve" would choose to be remembered for his enduring love for his immediate family (including his three energetic grandchildren), his interest in people from all over the world, his keen attachment to the people of the general Northern Neck area of Virginia where he had his second residence, his zest for entertaining, displaying a super pleasant smile, and sharing his passion for a fine glass of wine.
The family prefers that those who wish may make memorial contributions in his name to the ALS Association Northern Ohio Chapter, 6155 Rockside Rd., Ste. 403, Independence, OH 44131 or The Memorial Fund of Fairmount Presbyterian Church, 2757 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland Hts., OH 44118 where Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 11 am.
