"We honor the memory of Thomas C. Rohweder, M.D., born on October 26th, 1933 in Adrian, Michigan. He was a wonderful husband and father, a well-respected and beloved pediatrician, and a treasured member of his church and community. Tom received his BA in biology from Western Reserve University in 1955 and his MD from the University of Michigan in 1959. He completed an internship and residency in pediatrics at St. Lukes Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. He also served as a Captain in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1964 at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Alpena, Michigan. Dr. Rohweder started a private medical practice in Shaker Heights, Ohio where he spent the next 30 years taking care of children and families throughout the greater Cleveland area. In addition to serving as President of Suburban Pediatrics, Inc., he directed the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Lukes Hospital from 1967 to 1989. He was also a professor of pediatrics at his alma mater, Case Western Reserve University, from 1975 to 1998. He was a member of the Cleveland Academy of Medicine, the Northern Ohio Pediatric Society, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Tom was introduced to Marcia Smeyak through mutual friends, and they married in 1961. His daughter Catherine was born in 1966, and his daughter Christine was born in 1972. Tom and Marcia celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November, 2011. He loved vacationing with his family, gardening, classical music, and being active in his church. He volunteered at the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Botanical Garden, the Cleveland Metropolitan Health Planning Agency, and served on numerous medical advisory boards. He was also chairman of the Senior Pediatric Society. Thomas C. Rohweder is survived by his wife, Marcia A. Rohweder of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; his two daughters, Catherine L. Rohweder Julie Potts of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Christine S. Rohweder John Schumacher of Columbus, Ohio; and his grandson, Simon Potts Rohweder. He was also the dear brother of the late Suzanne McGeorge. We are grateful to have had him in our lives!
