Violet Thompson

March 20, 1924 — March 12, 2014

VIOLET D. THOMPSON (nee Dean) died March 12th, 2014.

Violet was the wife of the late Ralph C. Thompson and the cherished mother of Carole J. Thompson of Cleveland, Ohio. Cherished is a good word to use because she also cherished her family and all her friends.

She loved to travel across the country with Ralph and Carole and even took her beloved cats with her on some of those trips. She was always thoughtful enough to remember everyone's birthday with a call or a card, keeping every card that was sent to her.

Violet often entertained her many friends with her excellent cooking of apple pies, spaghetti, cheesecakes, chicken paprikash, fried chicken, cookies and cakes. No real surprise was that she collected everything with violets, clothes, cups, pictures, etc., and that among the collection of plants were amaryllis and violet plants.

Violet had such a compassionate heart. There were many times when she took family members into her home when they were in need of care but along with that empathy, there was also a character trait of being painfully honest with everybody, although she never intended to cause pain to anyone.

Violet was admittedly "electronically challenged." She could never keep her TV remote or cell phone working. However; this was not for a lack of intelligence, proven by her ability to work the crossword puzzle in the paper every day!

Violet was consistent in the fact that she had no real sense of time, therefore was always late, and endearing in the fact that she was never really concerned about it much. Although this trait may have driven Ralph and Carole a bit crazy, when she did show up, she was so perfectly matched up with her socks to her shirt, to her earrings and to her scarves, they were always appeased.

Violet was born in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Mayfield High School in 1942.

Violet worked for the Navy Finance Department and was later a hostess at the Tasty Shop, The Pewter Mug and Corky and Lennys.

Violet was the dear sister of the late Harold, Cecil and Norman Dean and Doris Dean Roelle and was also survived by five nieces and eight nephews along with many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The American Heart Association PO Box 15120, Chicago, Il. 60693.

A Funeral Service will be held, Thursday, March 20th at 1 PM in Brown-Forward, 17022 Chagrin Blvd., Shaker Hts., OH.

Interment will be held at a later date in Acacia Park Cemetery.
