VIRGINIA REED CHANEY age 92, died at her residence in Huron, Ohio, July 19th, 2010. She was a former long time resident of Shaker Heights, Ohio. Virginia was the beloved wife of the late E. Bruce Chaney, the dear mother of James Bruce Chaney JeanAnne of Lyndhurst, OH and the late Tomas Reed Chaney. She was the dear grandmother of Bethany Sue Chaney Bridget Wylie and Jeffrey Bruce Chaney Natalie and the dear great grandmother of Reed William Wylie-Chaney, Gabrielle Helene Wylie-Chaney, William Bruce Chaney and Spencer Paul Chaney. She was the sister of the late Frances Anne Johnson and the late Mable Louise Reed. Virginia was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania and graduated from Oil City High School in 1935. She went on to Ohio University and received an Associates Degree in Kindergarden Primary Education in 1937. Virginia taught second grade in The Dover Center School from 1937-1940, when she was married to E. Bruce Chaney. After her children got older, Virginia became the bookkeeper for Bruce Chaney & Company, from 1956-1962 and then became the President of The Cleveland Syrup Company in 1962, and held the title of President Emeritus at the time of her death. Virginia had a passion for genealogical research and began her love for her family's past when she joined the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1941. She went on to hold the honored position of Regent from 1972-74 and again from 1978-80. She was also a Past President of Colonial Dames XVII Century. She was a member of Magna Charta Dames a lineal descendent of Barons of England 1215, the Plantagenet Society descendent from Plantagenet Kings England, the Daughters of Colonial Wars and the Dames of Court of Honor. She was also a member of the Alpha XI Delta Fraternity. Virginia was a long time member of Plymouth Church of Shaker Heights, where her funeral service will be held in The Herr Memorial Chapel, Saturday, July 24th at 2 PM. A private interment will be in Acacia Park Cemetery of Mayfield Heights, Ohio.
