Virginia J. Horner beloved daughter of the late Virginia H. and Sidney D. L. Jackson, died after a brief illness on Thursday, October 23, 2014, at Laurel Lake Community in Hudson, Ohio. Born July 23, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio. Her parents moved to Shaker Heights, Ohio, shortly after her birth where she graduated from Hathaway Brown School. She then attended and graduated from Smith College with a BA in 1954.
On September 15, 1956, she married Thomas H. Horner of Shaker Heights at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights. After moving with her husband to up-state New York, she graduated from Syracuse University and taught briefly at Ilion High School. After moving back to Ohio, she later received her Master's degree from Western Reserve University (Case WRU). She wrote a weekly column "Horner's Corner" for community newspapers in Stark County for several years. She was active in the Junior League and devoted her spare time to needlework and bridge. She spent the summers of her youth at their cottage in Northern Michigan at Roaring Brook, near Harbor Springs where she was a member of the Little Harbor Club.
"Ginnie" is survived by her loving husband and companion of 58 years, her sister-in-law Mary H. McLeod, brother-in-law Charles W. W. Horner, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that those who wish make contributions in her name to Hathaway Brown School, 19600 North Park Blvd., Shaker Hts., OH 44122; Smith College Museum of Art, 20 Elm St., Northampton, MA 01063; Laurel Lake Foundation, 200 Laurel Lake Dr., Hudson, OH 44236; or to a charity of choice. Memorial Services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2747 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44106 on Saturday, November 1st at 3:00 p.m. There are no calling hours. Private interment will be at Lake View Cemetery.
