Walter Reed Warner was born September 7, 1939 in Belpre, Ohio. He passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014 after a prolonged illness. He is the second of five children born to Walter R. Warner Sr. and Gladys M. Warner (nee, Butler). He was affectionately known as "Bud" and "Uncle Dude".
The family moved to Cleveland in 1946, where he entered the Cleveland School System and attended John Adams High School. Walter entered the U.S. Army at the age of 17, where he became a member of the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper. There, he served seven years that included a tour of Europe. He returned to Cleveland after being honorably discharged.
In 1995, Walter was married to Sheree Parker whose loving presence led to his great joy in the remainder of his vibrant and healthy years. Her commitment to him and efforts to ensure his comfort in his final years of infirmity was truly a validation of the pledge to be there for better or for worse.
Walter worked at several local establishments including Seaway Foods as a warehouseman and The Cleveland Transit System as a bus driver. He retired from Pyramid Plastics in 1995.
Walter was a lively and intelligent man who was a vigorous scholar of worldly events. He was an avid reader of many books and the pursuit of knowledge using all forms of media.
Walter was a man with military type discipline and strong socio/economic/political values that centered on the improvement of social justice. He was particularly sensitive to the prevalence of Black-on-Black crime and the indiscriminate use of the N-Word long before it became a major topic of recent discernment and discussion.
Walter is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Sheree, five children; Bonita Thompson (Isaerl), Tonia Hampton (Stan), Dwight Warner, Briana Warner, and Patrick Warner; seven grandchildren; Garrett, Christopher, Jason (Lauren), Jayla, Lebrea, Lebrena, Daijon; two great-grandchildren; Jordyn, and Jason; three sisters; Anna Brown, Mary Martin, Patsy Charleston (Robert); one brother ; John Warner (Alemtshay), nieces, nephews, and a host of many relatives and an abundance of friends.
Funeral Services and a half hour viewing will begin at 10:00am on Saturday, March 8 at Brown-Forward, 17022 Chagrin Blvd, Shaker Hts.
A VISITATION WILL BE HELD AT BROWN-FORWARD FROM 4-7PM ON FRIDAY, MARCH 7.
Interment, Highland Park Cemetery.
