Wilber C. Nordstrom, loving husband of the late Joan Thurin Nordstrom, devoted father to Jan Carr Charles M, Julie Baker, Chris Hammack Ron, and Mark Nordstrom Marcia, passed away peacefully on March 7th, surrounded by his children. Wilber was born in 1918 at the family dairy farm in Geneva, New York. His family was hit hard in the depression, so at the age of 14 he supported himself as a bell hop at the Roycroft Inn in East Aurora, NY, living under the stairs. As his young years progressed, he became a proud member of the HOD carriers union, and he kept his card in his wallet until his final days. Wilber entered the University of Michigan on a full scholarship due to his academic and basketball abilities. He graduated with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. Wilber served in the Navy during World War II. Upon his return, his career quickly escalated because of his hard work, reliability, and problem solving abilities. He retired from Standard Products Co., where he served as executive vice president. Wilber loved fly fishing, tennis, Pentwater Michigan, and the camaraderie at the Union Club, Tavern Club, and the Academy Tavern. He was a devoted husband and father, and a fun gramps to all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was solid, reliable, and considerate to all - he was a true gentleman.
