An only child, Bill cared deeply about his family. He said he had "two good wives" and he was very fond of his children, step-children, and grandchildren. Born in Fall River, Mass. in 1935, Bill lived in the same house until he graduated from LaSalle Academy in Providence, RI. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and spent his summers with aunts and uncles and their dogs.
Summer jobs at the Berkshire textile mill convinced him he should attend and finish college. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1957 with a B.S. in geology and then earned a J.D. at the Northwestern University Law School in 1960.
Married to Marianne in 1961, he lived in suburban Chicago until a job transfer brought him to Hudson in 1975. Bill worked at Allstate Insurance for over 30 years, retiring as a claims manager the same year Marianne died. In retirement, he volunteered as an EMS driver and at the Hudson Public Library and was on the Board of Directors for Brown-Forward Funeral Service. He married Judy in 1996 and connected with his newly acquired step-children like they were his own.
He especially enjoyed walking his dog, getting coffee and donuts, and reading. Dinner at an Italian restaurant was a regular event with both Marianne and Judy.
A casual golfer, he played mainly for the opportunity to spend time with his sons and later with Judy.
He never missed an opportunity to engage any of his children in discussions about current events in their lives or others'.
He was the patriarch of a family who will miss him very much.
