William Tousley Smith was born in Cleveland in 1931. He passed away February 5th. William graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1949 and went on to Dartmouth College where he became a Ruffus Choate Scholar, graduating cum laude in 1953. He graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1956, with the honor of the Order of the Coif. William won Regional Moot Court Competition in 1955 and 1956 and qualified for the National Moot Court Competition in New York City. He was Associate Editor of the Law Review in 1955-56. Following Law School, he served two years in the United States Army. The first ten years of his career was as a litigator with McAfee, Hanning, Newcomer, Hazlett & Wheeler, general counsel to Sohio. He then spent ten years with Texaco, Inc. in New York City where he attained the position of Associate General Counsel. In 1976 he returned to Cleveland as a senior litigation partner in the firm of Calfee, Halter and Griswold. He was a member of the Rowfant Club, The Court of Nisi Prius, and in 1995 was inducted into The Society of Benchers of Case Western Reserve University. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Janet G. Smith, their three daughters: Stacy S. Quinn Dr. Patrick G. Quinn; Marcie S. Barker, and husbandAli H. Barker; and Christy S. SoldatisDr. Jeffery Soldatis , and his six grandchildren: Daniel P. and Brigid L. Quinn, Nicholas W. and Henry G. Barker, and Erin C. and Samuel S. Soldatis. He is also survived by his two brothers Stuart O.
