Wilma Bartholomay

Wilma SwisslerBartholomay passed away in Chagrin Falls on March 19, 2014 after a long and active life. She was born November 11, 1919 in Chicago Illinois, a city she loved her entire life. She graduated from the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania in 1937 and Connecticut College for Women in New London, Connecticut in 1941 with a BA in Art History. In 1951, she married Herman Bartholomay, the love of her life. They moved with their children from Winnetka, Illinois to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1965, where she lived until 2001. She was a member of the Junior League of Chicago and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Phoenix. She was a member of the Winnetka Garden Guild (Winnetka, Illinois), and served as a Docent at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona. She was a past president of the Desert Foundation Auxiliary in Phoenix, Arizona. For over 25 years, Wilma was the chairman of the Fine Arts Committee at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, which she considered her life's work.

She was the beloved wife of Herman Bartholomay (1917-1986), dear mother of Mary VeraBartholomayRaynolds (Robert) of Longmont, Colorado, Margaret Ann Bartholomay Wilson (Loyal) of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Herman (Chip) Roy Bartholomay of Longmont, Colorado, cherishedgrandmother of William Raynolds, Robert Raynolds, Margaret Wilson, Emily Wilson, Ann Wilson, and Catherine Wilson. She loved to travel, tell stories, read, and cook for friends and family. We are grateful for her life and for her presence among us.


In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to the Rector's Discretionary Fund, St. Paul's Episopal Church, 2747 Fairmount Blvd, Cleveland Heights, OH 44106, or Connecticut College, Office of Advancement, 270 Mohegan Avenue, New London, CT 06320.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday May 10, 2014 at St. Paul's
Episcopal Church. The Family will receive friends at a reception in Tucker Hall immediately following the service.


Commitment will be on Saturday May 24 at 10:00 a.m. in the Memorial Garden of St. Barnabas-on-the-Desert in Scottsdale, Arizona.
