Yvonne Nelson

February 17, 1930 — March 16, 2012

Yvonne H. Nelson, a longtime resident of Shaker Heights and Chagrin Falls, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012 following an extended illness. Yvonne was married to Carl G. Nelson for 36 years until his death in 1993. She also was preceded in death by her brother Eugene Harner and her grandson Justin Suth. She will be deeply missed by her two daughters, Adrienne Kirby and her husband John of Shaker Heights, and Kirsten Suth and her husband Brian of Northbrook, IL and four grandsons, John Jr., Weston, and Tyler Kirby and Dylan Suth. Yvonne was born and raised in Morgantown, West Virginia, daughter of the late Guy F. and Elva C. Harner. She graduated from West Virginia University where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and then earned her Master's Degree in Retailing from the University of Pittsburgh. Yvonne worked for The Higbee Company as a buyer of handbags and small leather goods and later as an office manager at Reliance Electric. She was a tireless volunteer for the Junior Board for the Amasa Stone Home, the Girl Scouts, and the Shaker Lakes Regional Nature Center and was a member of the Moses Cleveland Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. An avid gardener, talented seamstress, accomplished cook, devoted mother and friend, she lived her life with unwavering faith, strength and courage. Yvonne's family is indebted to her long time companions, Kristine Cook and Karen Rees for their loving care and for enhancing the quality of her life. Contributions may be made in memory of Yvonne Nelson to The Metro Health Foundation, Brain Injury Patient Care, Education and Research Fund, 2500 Metro Health Drive, Towers 135A, Cleveland, OH 44109 or Justin Carl Suth SIDS Research Fund, at C.A.M.P., Children's Memorial Hospital, 2300 Children's Plaza, Chicago, IL 60614. A Memorial Service to celebrate Yvonne's life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the United Methodist Church of Chagrin Falls, 20 S. Franklin Street. Burial will take place at Lake View Cemetery immediately following the service.
